A space for women business owners to share.

Hello

I need to get in front of busy working moms. My service business caters to them. I do not have children of school age (adults w/o kids themselves)
I do a lot of networking (chambers, social clubs, country clubs and other groups)but the majority of people I see are not working moms.

I do not see a local meeting on meetup either. Does anyone have any ideas on what worked/works for them?

Hi Carolyn!

Have you considered MOPS (Mother's of Pre-Schoolers) and other organizations like that? Many may be stay at home moms, but not always. There are many groups like this, you just have to do a little searching and contact the presidents of the groups. I'll find out some other specific groups for you and get back with you. Usually the way these groups work is that you go in and do a speech (typically 30-60 minutes) on helpful tips and do very little advertising on yourself. Allow the business to naturally flow to you (which it will), and you'll be asked to come back and even speak at other groups from there. If you are interested in doing this, let me know and I'll hook you up with some more groups and possibly contact names...

Hope this helps!

It seems to me, that the places you are going are a bad fit for working Moms. Chambers are mostly business owners, social clubs are for people with TIME, which working Moms notoriously do NOT have!

So consider daycare centers, rec or workout centers, or other places they still feel compelled to go, and then consider things that they are purchasing regularly anyway - mostly to save time. Find creative ways to piggyback your advertising with those things - see if a local pizza restaurant will let you put a flyer with their boxes, or other cooperative advertising.

Online, go to those venues for busy moms, not those for moms with lots of time on their hands. :)

Best wishes,

Hi Carolyn,

Have you heard of www.cafemom.com? While they don't differentiate between working and stay-at-home moms (who are, in my opinion, also "working moms"!) it is a great place to connect with busy moms.

At the bottom, I also attached a link to an article entitled "Employers Who Make It Easier to be a Working Mom." These employers are very interested in this new trend and I was thinking that if that was the case, a simple letter of introduction to the human resources director of these companies would more than likely be welcomed.

If you need any help, I help companies raise money for capital and have been successful in building awareness for interesting new ventures via public relations. I am not a traditional marketer (as you can tell from my two suggestions) and have fun coming up with "out of the box" ideas for my clients to hit their target market. I also break the trend of "the expensive consultant" and prefer to work with people on a sliding scale depending on their budget.

Here is the link (I think you may need to copy and paste it into your browser):

Carolyn,

It's critical to focus your marketing efforts so you're in front of your target market. You may run into some working mothers while networking at chamber events, etc., but not in a concentrated way. Maybe you could form some strategic alliances, with retail stores & grocery stores (offering your personal shopping services to their customers), for example. You could partner with upscale local daycares to offer your services there, as a value-added bonus for parents. A working mom could pick up the dry cleaning, greeting cards or wrapped birthday presents that you drop off, when she picks up her child/ren. Corporations, even small businesses, like to have employees on the job, instead of running errands. Many companies have video screens for employee communications. You could make a 3 minute video of all the time saving things your company does for working parents, along with tips for time management or stress management, and offer a special discount to parents (usually moms) for the month that it's being shown. Check out the from Central Trend Report @ http://www.momcentralconsulting.com.The http://www.bsmmedia.com (Marketing with Moms) has some good information.
Also, you can partner with other companies offering complementary services to busy mothers. Don't forget to find mom-oriented social network sites and ferret out local women. I have other ideas if you'd like to chat. Good luck!

Do you have a profile setup on twitter.com ? There are a lot of working moms on there.
- Set up your profile
- scroll to the bottom of the page and click on SEARCH -- and search for working moms - and other variations. That should get you a starter list.

Also - look at www.ezinearticles.com - consider writing some articles on the topic - and searching other articles related.

Hope these help

Denise
