Profile Information

What is your name?
Jena Schuster
Are you currently heading a woman-owned business?
Yes
If you are in business, what is the name of your business?
Lifestyle Portfolios
Where did you get your idea for your business or the business you'd like to start?
I began my career in the financial world at the age of 21. After a few years of working in a male dominated business I decided there needed to be a differnt/better approach to working with women and helpin them with their finances. I became a partner at my dads investment firm and we started to focus our efforts on helping families and women, plan, grow and preserve their wealth.
Where is (will) your business located? (City and State)
Orange County and San Diego County, CA
If you already have a website, what is the address for your business?
http://lifestyleportfolios.com
How long have you been in business? (Or when do you plan to open?)
Lifestyle Portfolios has been in business for 12 years and we have been helping familes and women organize, plan, grow and preserve their wealth since the day we started !
How many employees do you have, if any?
1-5
What is your annual revenue?
I choose not to disclose
Describe your product or service, or the product you plan to introduce to the market.
At Lifestyle Portfolios our mission is to help our clients and their family attain financial peace of mind.
We strive to make their financial life easier, thereby allowing them to pursue other interests. We do this by providing
sound investment direction, offering emotional support during periods of market volatility and identifying
sensible investment strategies to help our clients achieve their financial objectives.
At the heart of our firm is the fiduciary duty that we have to our clients. As fiduciaries we serve the best
interest of our clients and remain fully committed to their financial goals.
Through comprehensive wealth management and financial planning we are able to assist our clients in building a
secure financial future. Portfolio management is our specialty and we remain dedicated to building diversified
portfolios that are unique to each client’s individual situation. Our goal is to generate superior riskadjusted
returns through disciplined portfolio management using our methodology of Tactical Asset
Allocation.
How did you (or plan to) fund your business startup?
personal savings
What was (is) the biggest hurdle in getting your business off the ground?
The biggest hurdle was time managment. I feel so strongly about family time and quality time that in the beggining it was hard to have a balance and work took over my life. The other big hurdle are the things you cannot control and that is a hard thing to work through as well as teach people that you are working with.
What would you advise other women interested in starting a similar business?
My best advise would be to only get into a business that you have a passion for and if you work hard to do things for other people and erich their lives your life will be enriched and it wont even feel like work !
What has been your biggest mistake?
my biggest mistake has been trying to do everything myself. I am not a good manager and it took me years to let go and hire good people to help me.
What has been your smartest move?
my smartest move was hiring good people and letting them run the day to day operations so that I can focus on what I do best and that is working with my cllients to help them feel safe and secure about their financial future.
I have a great opportunity to do a live radio program on kceo 1000 am tues, wed and thur from 5-6pm which allows me to provide financial education to anyone listenting. www.kceoradio.com listen live
Are you willing to answer questions from other women business owners about your business?
Yes

The investment world is a crazy place right now.......

With all the uncertaintly in the investment world right now, now is not a time to make emotional decisions about your investments. Stick to a long term plan and choose your investments that suite your risk tollerance. Some of the worst investment decisions are made when they are irrational and made at the snap of a finger, so hang in there any know that this too shall pass.
2008 has been an unsettling year. Just about anyone with assets outside a piggy bank had reason to pause and wonder: What d… Continue
