If you are in business, what is the name of your business?
Living Waters Publishing Company and Christian Consulting Company
Where did you get your idea for your business or the business you'd like to start?
As for the publishing, I was a writer and when I saw how hard it is to get a great contract, I knew this was something I needed to do.
With the consulting, I fell into it when I became a minister. I had to do the job for the church I attended, which came with tons of seminars all over the place. Then, before I knew it, I was getting contracts all over the place and becoming known as one of the best in the business.
Where is (will) your business located? (City and State)
Marion, AR
If you already have a website, what is the address for your business?
How long have you been in business? (Or when do you plan to open?)
I've worked for myself for nearly five years
How many employees do you have, if any?
6-10
What is your annual revenue?
$100K-$250K
Describe your product or service, or the product you plan to introduce to the market.
LWPC - Christian publishing company for children's books, fiction/nonfiction, poetry, memoirs, etc
CCC - focus on business, church, fellowship and/or school startup; nonprofit applications, business plans, grant applications, etc.
How did you (or plan to) fund your business startup?
friends and family
What was (is) the biggest hurdle in getting your business off the ground?
Advertising, marketing, public relations... I had to learn that all of those are separate, yet closely intertwined. Also, something many people don't focus on, but that is important nonetheless is earning and maintaining a great reputation. One dissatisfied client can overshadow 200 clients who loved you.
What would you advise other women interested in starting a similar business?
Research, research, research... but, don't limit yourself where others have. Learn all you can and then forget about it. Be your own client and you'll know what is fair to offer and fair to charge
What has been your biggest mistake?
Being a little too honest... lol! It's a long story.
The other mistake that wasn't really a mistake is that I dared to be different. I've been attacked for it, but who cares. It works for me and my clients.
What has been your smartest move?
Daring to be different... funny how your greatest strength can also be your greatest weakness
