What is your name?
Sandie Law
Are you currently heading a woman-owned business?
Yes
If you are in business, what is the name of your business?
Macaroni and Peas LLC
Where did you get your idea for your business or the business you'd like to start?
Personal experience. Being a busy parent, I struggled to feed my kid healthy food that he actually liked. I figured more parents out there are interested in feeding their children good food that they love. I'm offering one on one coaching to help busy parents with food choices.
Where is (will) your business located? (City and State)
Council Bluffs, IA
If you already have a website, what is the address for your business?
http://macaroniandpeas.com
How long have you been in business? (Or when do you plan to open?)
1 month
How many employees do you have, if any?
0
What is your annual revenue?
$0-$999
Describe your product or service, or the product you plan to introduce to the market.
One on one coaching for busy parents to help them feed their families well without spending a lot of time or money. I've got a blog to support the coaching business and I'm writing an e-book.
How did you (or plan to) fund your business startup?
Credit cards, personal savings
What was (is) the biggest hurdle in getting your business off the ground?
Guts. I just had to bite the bullet and do it.
What would you advise other women interested in starting a similar business?
Go for it! My business required nothing more than a website. I paid a friend (who happens to be a designer) to help with the logo and Wordpress template and I bought hosting for the site. All in all, about $400. You can do that.
What has been your biggest mistake?
I'm not a salesperson and I have a hard time selling my services. I feel cheesy or creepy when I try to sell my service.
What has been your smartest move?
Sucking it up and going for it. My site isn't perfect and I have yet to get a client, but I'm out there and I'm doing it.
Are you willing to answer questions from other women business owners about your business?
Yes
What is your email address?
sandie@macaroniandpeas.com

Healthy Fast Food for Kids?

Fast food isn’t exactly what we encourage you to serve your families here at Macaroni and Peas. However, we all run out of time on occasion and need to grab a meal on the go. Here are a few healthy alternatives geared toward kids from some national chains: Burger King The King recently revamped their kids menu [...]

Breakfast is the Most Important Meal of the Day

I know you’ve heard it before, but there’s a reason it’s been said so often: it’s true. After a night with no food, your body and brain need something to get them jump started for the day. This is especially true when you’re talking about the body and brain of a school age kid. While [...]

The Importance of Exercise and Play

When you want to shape up and improve your physical fitness, you hit the gym. Weight lifting and spinning classes may be great ways for you to get in shape, but kids tend to find such activities terribly boring. So what do you do to help your kids get in shape? I’m in favor of a three [...]

Is your kid healthy?

Like most parents, you’re probably very interested in the health and happiness of your kids. I know that’s high on my list of priorities. Whether you’re kid is fat or skinny or somewhere in between, helping them develop healthy habits and attitudes is important. Despite the definitions about what makes a person fat, I believe that [...]

Being a Fat Kid in America

Don’t chubby kids just have leftover baby fat? I mean, rolly polly babies are adorable and desired throughout the world. Wouldn’t chunky kids be good too? As it turns out, not so much. Fat kids suffer from social stigma, health problems, and mental health concerns. Social Stigma Kids are mean. They call each other names, tease each [...]

Hi Sandie,

Nice to meet you. Thanks for inviting me as a friend. It's funny...I looked at where you're from, and my mom is from Council Bluffs, IA. We live in CA, and I do not think I've ever met anyone else from Council Bluffs. Of course, it's been many, many years since she's lived there. I'd love to talk to you in more detail about your business. It's definitely in line with one of our concepts, which we are trying to teach children. I can be reached at lisa@bingnote.com. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Lisa
